MISSIONS & OUTREACH
At First Baptist Church of Westfield, we seek to assist the homeless, hungry, the stranger and alien, and displaced in our own community. Our children and youth actively participate in their own service projects, as well as are involved in what the congregation as a whole. We do believe in being the hands and feet of Christ.
Currently, we are a support congregation providing meals for homeless families with Family Promise. Throughout the year we donate to the Food Pantry in Elizabeth. Food is collected and given to families in need at Thanksgiving. At Christmas, we bring gifts for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Plans are underway for an English as a Second Language Program.
Our mission initiative “Church Gathered, Church Scattered” is guided by Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25:34-37, 40 “Come O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me…Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me”. Several times a year after the worship service, inter-generational teams of children, youth and adults go into community to put our faith in action and serve others.
